T-minus 99 Days and Counting to ICD-10 Blast-Off
Only 99 days remain until October 1, when the federally mandated switch to the 10th edition of the International Classification of Diseases begins.
(Actually, 99 days, 12 hours, and 45 minutes as of this posting.)
Most providers in the United States, from hospitals to solo practitioners, have spent months preparing their business systems and working with their trading partners or billing clearinghouses for the change to ICD-10 diagnosis and procedure codes. Providers risk having their claims deny if they don't make the switch.
All insurers, public and private, are affected. NCTracks is currently testing with providers and trading partners to make sure the system will be ready.
Providers who have delayed their preparations are urged to take advantage of available resources to learn about ICD-10, especially the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). For links to this and other resources, consult the NCTracks ICD-10 webpage. (See link below)
A 99 days can whiz by and once the launch date of October 1 arrives, there's no going back.
