ICD-10 Back to Basics
In the first 6 days of ICD-10, most claims submitted through the NCTracks provider portal have paid as they should. The mistakes we’ve noticed are basic, and fortunately many providers see the mistakes, correct them and resubmit promptly. So, as a reminder:
- Make sure you have the correct ICD version on each claim. What version to use is based on the date of service. (The portal defaults to ICD-10.)
- Each claim can have only one ICD version.
- And the version needs to match the code(s). We’ve seen ICD-10 version claims submitted with ICD-9 codes.
If you need to find the correct code, check the DMA clinical coverage policies at http://www2.ncdhhs.gov/dma/mp/ or the NCTracks ICD-10 Crosswalk at http://ncmmis.ncdhhs.gov/icdxwalk.asp.
